sri lanka
This is an orphanage for Elephants.
You can see elephants with broken limbs-
some of them are victims of land mines.
Restoration work is going on one of the stupas.
One can imagine the size of stupa with the scaffoldings erected against it.
Stupas in Sri Lanka are huge in size in comparison to stupas in India.
Lower part of Budha's statue
Another stupa. I am forgetting the names of these places.
I think it is Ruwanwelisaya in Anuradhapura
Reclining Buddha. I have seen many reclining Buddhas in Sri Lanka.
Reclining Buddha in Dambulla cave temple.
Stupa in Anuradhapura.
The other side of the stupa is pasted over with iron scaffoldings.
Reclining Buddha in Dambulla Cave Temple.
Feet of reclining Buddha in Dambulla Cave Temple.
As if this demon is preparing to swallow the Ruwanvelisaya Chedi.
A carved stone on the enterance of the temple.
Ruwanwelisaya
Ruwanwelisaya
Ruwanwelisaya
Ruwanwelisaya
Do not worry I am holding the chair
Sri Lanka a war torn country. The beauty of this country is that the ancient monuments are kept well preserved unlike our country.
We are a proud country of a very long history and a rich culture then why can't we keep the reminiscents of our rich culture and history well preserved ????
