Whispers through Cab Drivers - 2

Talking to cab drivers while riding on their cabs is sometimes very interesting and sometime it is very painful.  Sometimes these discussions left me completely awestruck with the harsh realities that are prevalent in our society.🙇🙇🙇

When the Motor Vehicle Act enacted, so many jokes were circulating.  The emergence of mobile phones and internet data provided by the service provides at cheaper rates  has given a tool through social media, to the citizens. People do not hesitate in recording events and then circulating these on WhatsApp or Facebook. When the Motor Vehicle Act came into existence, people have circulated so many videos where the authorities were shown as the charging exuberantly for no reason. 😱😱

On one such rides, I asked the driver whether he has paid any fine under this Act.  He narrated a very interesting incident where I could not understand that whether I should laugh or get agitated.  He told me that once the Police stopped his  vehicle and inspected his uniform and his car.  The Policeman, then found two three legitimate points where the driver can be fined. Moreover, something was missing in his uniform, therefore, he was charged a fine of Rs.30,000/-  I was aghast on listening to this.  😳😳🤢

By that time we had already heard so many stories, where the drivers were charged and paid hefty amount as fine.  And here I was having first hand information about the hefty fines.  I couldn't resist myself and with a mixed feelings of anxiety, curiosity I asked him that how could he manage to pay such an hefty amount.  His answer left me completely amazed.  He told me that he paid only Rs.150/- and get away.  He later on rectified all those points which were lacking in his vehicle and his uniform.  I couldn't understand whether to laugh on this incident or feel agitated on the corruption which is still at rampant in our society and actually eating out the lining of our system. And people say that now corruption does not exist in our country. 😈😈😈😈😈

On my another ride from Delhi to Punjab, I came across another darker shade of our society.  One of the drivers told me a heart wrenching incident.  He talked about two brothers in his native village in Punjab.  I forgot the name of the village and it is not necessary to mention the name here. These two brothers, must be in their seventies, had a small holding of about two acres of land in their village.  Both were working hard in this small holding and growing vegetables and selling these in their village as well as in neighbouring villages.  They were leading a comfortable life. 😌😌😌😌😌

The son of one of the brothers, forced his father to sell off the small holding, he even threatened his father that if do not agree to his demand, he will kill him as well as his brother.  Fearing for his life, his father sold off his property.  With the money, the boy purchased a luxury car and spent the amount on showing off his wealth and satisfied his ego.  The poor guy, his father now working in the same fields as a labourer and sometimes he begs for money from neighbours or friends.  🙈🙉🙊🙍🙍🙍

This was not a one incident, there are plenty of such cases in our society. People are being carried away with the unnecessary show off. The villagers are selling off their land so that they can send their kids to Canada, Australia or New Zealand. I do not know that how many of these succeed in getting their kids settled in these countries.  And I don't know that who is to be blamed for it. 😷😷

One of the driver while I was travelling within Punjab, told me about one of his hobby is taking his dogs for racing.  He owned four grey hounds which he said that he got these from Dubai.  He spent few lakhs of INR on buying these grey hounds and paying duty. He feeds his dogs with chicken and dry fruits during winters and lots of curd during summer. When we hired his taxi, his dogs were sent to another district for training. I wanted to see these bread earners. They were being trained to run on the given track. I have neither seen this race nor heard that how do these dogs run.  He told me that they tie a rabbit (he said artificial 😦😦) to a vehicle and the dogs chase that rabbit and this is how they learn to run on the track.

According to this driver, about 70 dogs take part in this race. First, three dogs will run on the track and the dog who won this first race will go for second race with other two dogs.  In this case, the winning dog has to run for many kilometers. One track is of 500 meters. It means the dog who won the race has to run for 350+ kms in a day. Gosh.....

He further informed that once two of his dogs died because of injections.  First we thought that probably the owner of other participants injected them with poison, but we were wrong. They were injected drugs for winning the race and probably these poor canines could not resist the pressure of running in the race as these injections affect their body organs. I forgot the name of the drug, they are injected. 😩😩

Since injecting the drug for race, is a regular practice, therefore,  the authorities have made dope test mandatory for the participating dogs, before the event. This driver further added to my amazement when he told us that they have now started their dogs dozing with liquor.  I asked him the brand name, he said it is country liqour and for this race, two bottles are poured down to his system in one day. These dogs are being dozed with liquor in smaller quantities every hour as this way, it is not possible to detect liquor in their urine. 😯😯😯

This driver further told us that daily their dogs have to run for 20 kms. to get the good results.  These canine follow their masters as masters rode on bike or a car.

He won bullet motorcycle twice as a first prize which he got encashed as motorcycle was useless for him.

He told that he give his dogs a rest of few months after the race, whereas there are people who do not give even a day's rest to their dogs. 🤢😒😢🤔
